He learned quickly that being reliable, living up to your word and providing good customer service are the foundations of success. Those are the same values that he has maintained with Foster Sales and Delivery since it started in 1981. In the beginning, the business focused mainly on the products for sale and less about the transportation. The primary products were produce, watermelons, and citrus fruits from Florida, Georgia and other southern states. Doing business in areas so far from home meant learning quickly about the transportation industry. Bob also gained his own experience in those days hauling fertilizer for the business. They quickly realized that in order to grow the business it was necessary to own the trucks because as Bob says, “it was key to be able to control the service we gave our customers”. So, in 1983-84 they purchased trucks and began to hire drivers. The business continued to grow and it was evident that the attention to customer service wasn’t going unnoticed. In 1984-85 they began to haul steel and aluminum which has continued to be a staple of the business ever since.Operations were moved away from home into a terminal in Gallipolis in 1986. The business operated there for 14 years where they were able to increase the fleet to XX trucks hauling in XX states. In 2000, they took the opportunity to move into the Dan Evans Industrial Park located conveniently off US 35 in nearby Bidwell. The business still operates here today where Foster Sales & Delivery has 50-60 trucks offering delivery to 48 states.
